The Willow Project

The Willow Project is a massive oil drilling project in Alaska that was recently approved by the Biden administration. If this is not stopped, it can have detrimental effects on the environment as well as on Alaskan natives.

It has the ability to release 9.2 million metric tons of carbon pollution a year and ruin the habitat for the species that live near the area. Furthermore, it can create gas leaks that would also be damaging to the environment. The native village of Nuiqsut has made its stance on the issue clear, stating reasons as to why carrying out this project would do more harm than good.

Not only could this have adverse effects on the planet, but it also violates promises made during the Biden campaign. They originally made it clear there would be a stop to new oil and gas drilling on public lands. However, the executive order aimed at making that come true was shot down by a federal judge and thus, drilling has continued.

To help put a stop to the Willow Project, you can write the White House, sign petitions, advocate with pro-environment groups, contact local officials, and more.

If we allow this to happen, it will have irreversible effects on the environment and ecosystems alike, and further stump the effort of improving climate change.
